Before you embark on the local sightseeing let us take an aside to get acquainted with this city’s past. The city of Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha, the leader of the Rathore clan, in 1459 AD. The city was built as the new capital of Marwar and flourished due to its strategic location between Delhi and Gujarat which was a major trade route with merchants dealing in opium, copper, silk, sandals, date palms and coffee. Much of the Old city now lay in ruin but the resplendent fort of Mehrangarh nestled on the rise above the hillock and overlooking the city.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and lavish meal on onboard and get ready for local sightseeing tour. Pay a quick visit to the Old Clock Tower, the local market and later proceed to Mehrangarh Fort. . The fort is one of the largest forts in Rajasthan and was founded as the site of Marwar’s new capital most of the modern city is built around this landmark.

You can visit several minutely carved and decorated palaces and temples inside the Mehrangarh fort complex which includes Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Zenana Deodi and Chamunda Mataji Temple.
The highlight of the fourth day of Maharajas Express itinerary is the barbecue at the Royal courtyard of Mehrangarh Fort. An array of gourmet cuisines which includes traditional Marwari delicacies served in royal ambience along with platters from around the world.
