Hampi Utsav or Vijaya Utsav are the common terms for Hampi Festival, having its origin dating back to the Vijayanagar reign. This festival is organized by the Karnataka Government on a very large scale.
Kannadigas dance, puppet shows, fireworks, drama, spectacular parades, etc., are some of the major attractions of the festival. Along with this, to revive the brilliance of the bygone era, musical instruments such as pipes and drums are played.
This cultural event of Hampi - UNESCO World Heritage Site, features elephants, local men and horses dressed according to the military in the Golden Era.

Along with this, the Virupaaksha temple, previously known as the Raja Marga, is worth a visit. This temple is located at a distance of 2 km, and is tastefully decorated during the time of festivity alike the Vijayanagar theme. The performances by carnatic vocalists and classical Indian dancers in several avenues are also organized during the festival.
The main motive of the Hampi celebration is to commemorate the golden era of Vijayanagar rule. The celebration is of three days, featuring a mega cultural extravaganza and several colorful events, adding to high end tourism market.

Karnataka State will spend INR 6 Crore for Hampi Festival, which is a significant forum to the masters of the cultural field to represent the historical and cultural heritage to the visitors. As Hampi has been declared as the UNESCO World Heritage Site, all relevant steps have been taken to preserve & maintain the historical monuments at Hampi. Round-the-clock security is also available. The festival is reported to be inaugurated by Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Getting to Hampi:
Hospet is the nearest railhead to reach Hampi, located at a distance of an hour. Regular bus service and private bus service are also available from Goa and Bangalore to reach Hampi via Hospet. Auto-rickshaw can be hired to reach Hampi from Hospet.
