Takht Express for Five Sikh Shrines from December, 2011

There’s good news for religious tourists. Mr. Rakesh Tandon, managing director of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) announced the launch of Takht Express, a luxury train to cover Sikh shrines in India. The train will be flagged of on 23rd of December, 2011 from Chandigarh. Mr Tandon was addressing the travel agents and press in Beijing where he is on a tour to promote Mahaparinirvan Express among Chinese tourists and travel agents.

Whereas Mahaparinirvan Express covers Buddhist sites in India and Nepal, the new luxury train Takht Express will cover the 5 most important shrines of Sikhs. The move has come amidst the growing demand of luxury trains traversing religious circuits. Last year, one of the Indian luxury train Deccan Odyssey was chartered to cover the Sikh Shrines and was a huge success among overseas travelers.

Takht Express is launched following to the ever increasing demand of the overseas travelers and popularity of religious circuits in India, said Mr Tandon, speaking to the press during the event. The event is organized by the IRCTC along with the Indian Embassy and India Tourism department, Beijing, to promote the Mahaparinirvan Express among the Buddhist in China.
